Tim Whiteside works with paper, color and acrylic mediums. His work is both two- and three-dimensional, ranging from flat canvases to sculptural works that are suspended, some seeming to defy gravity. The techniques he employs to create these pieces are garnered from his study of printmaking, painting, drawing and use of wire to make shapes that then become an airborne substrate for the paper he transforms. The way these three-dimensional pieces are suspended adds the dimension of movement allowing different visual perspectives for the viewer as well as changing the way light and shadow encounters the various elements in the work.

Tim Whiteside’s work has been exhibited in group shows at the Art Student’s League of New York where his work “Hive” was recognized as “best in class” (red dot) in 2025 resulting in a second Juried showing at the Fridman Gallery in lower Manhattan that same year. His work is in private collections in New York, San Francisco as well as in Lisbon and Porto, Portugal.  

Whiteside received a BSBA degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio (1975); his MD at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio (1980) and completed Post Graduate Studies at Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY, 1986. This was followed by a career in Emergency Medicine (1986-2018). He has studied at the Honolulu Museum of Art School, The New School  in Manhattan, The Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop,  The Art Students League of New York, The Woodstock School of Art, The Art School at Mulranny Arts, Mulranny, Ireland, and has had several artist residencies at the Brown-Pink Studio sponsored by R&F Paints in Kingston, NY.
